Authors Registry Becomes a Member of CISAC
In December 2000, the Authors Registry was admitted as a member society of CISAC.
CISAC, the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies, was
founded in Paris in 1926, where its office still resides. The Authors Registry
is one of ten U.S. organizations to be admitted to CISAC; others include ASCAP and BMI.
CISAC is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, which counts as members
some 200 author societies in 98 countries. It represents 2 million creators of
works worldwide in the musical, dramatic, literary, and audio-visual arts, as well
as in the graphic and plastic arts.
As the international federation for creators' rights societies, CISAC works
towards increased recognition for the rights of its members. CISAC is officially
accredited by WIPO (World Organization for Intellectual Property), UNESCO, the
European Union and the Council of Europe.
CISAC's work is primarily in the area of coordination of the work of its member
societies. Many of these societies work within a system of reciprocal agreements
which allow efficient licensing of, and payment for, members' works. CISAC works
to increase this efficiency by providing support for work in standardization and
automation of rights transactions. For more information on CISAC, visit the Web
site at: www.cisac.org
