Cooking Light Signs On With the Registry

January 23, 1997 - Cooking Light, at 1.3-million the highest-circulation food magazine in the U.S., has become the latest publication to contract with the Authors Registry to distribute royalties and fees to freelance writers for reuse of their work.

The magazine, published by Southern Progress Corp. (part of the Time Warner family), has agreed to pay for the right to reuse freelance-written articles and recipes on its site on the World Wide Web and in CD-ROMs and other print publications.

"Reuse of material from the magazine is an increasing part of our business," explains Cooking Light editor Doug Crichton. "We think freelancers, who are part of our lifeblood, should be part of those enterprises. We expect the Registry to smooth the way to making that possible."

Under its contract with contributors, Cooking Light asks for an option to use published material beyond the standard first use in the magazine, specifying various payments to be made through the Authors Registry as the options are exercised.
